Accredited, Audited and Genuinely Qualified

When you let a company into your home to treat damp or timber, you are trusting them to be honest, properly trained and accountable. Sadly, not every company in this industry is. Some display impressive looking logos they are not entitled to. Some are not even registered at Companies House, which means if something goes wrong there is no real comeback.

South East Timber & Damp is different, and we can prove it. We are full members of the Property Care Association, the governing body for our industry, and we hold every accreditation that genuinely matters. We are audited regularly, fully insured and our work is guaranteed for ten years. Here is exactly who checks us, what we hold, and why it should matter to you.

Members of the Property Care Association (PCA)

The Property Care Association - PCA is the recognised governing body for the damp proofing, timber treatment and structural waterproofing industry. Membership is not something you can simply pay for and display. It has to be earned, and it has to be maintained.

To be a PCA member, a company must:

  • have been trading for at least two years, with two years of accounts checked by a qualified accountant
  • hold, or be working towards, a comprehensive industry recognised qualification
  • pass regular audits to prove the PCA’s high standards are being maintained
  • follow a formal Code of Conduct and a strict Code of Ethics
  • meet minimum performance standards on every job

In other words, when you see a genuine PCA logo, you are looking at a company that has been thoroughly checked by experts, has the right skills and qualifications, and is held accountable to a national body. If a dispute ever arose, the PCA even offers a mediation service between homeowners and members.

How to Spot a Company You Can Actually Trust

Check they are a real, registered business

A professional-looking website is easy to build. Being a real, accountable company is not. Before you book anyone, search their company name on the Companies House register and check they have a registered address. If a company has no Companies House listing and no proper address, you may have no way to put things right if something goes wrong.

We see it regularly: websites claiming to be PCA members when they are not, and a quick Companies House search shows they are not even a registered limited company. They simply do not exist on paper. No address, no company details, nothing but a contact form and a phone number.

Look for credibility logos, not filler logos

Some companies fill their website with the logos of chemical and material suppliers. These look reassuring but tell you nothing about the company’s honesty or competence. The logos that actually matter are the ones that mean someone independent has checked them, like the PCA, TrustMark and Which? Trusted Trader, and where the company’s address is registered and audited.

Check the accreditation is genuine

Anyone can copy and paste a logo. The PCA lets you run a free search of its register to confirm whether a company really is a member. If in doubt, check. A genuine member will be glad you did.

Genuinely Qualified, Not Just a Salesman With a Damp Meter

Our Managing Director, Dean Webster, holds the CSRT (Certified Surveyor in Remedial Treatments) and CSSW (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) qualifications. These are the highest recognised surveying credentials in the damp proofing industry, and they are earned through rigorous written, visual and oral examination.

Dean has over 30 years of hands-on experience and carries out every survey personally. That matters, because a damp problem diagnosed correctly the first time saves you from paying for work you do not actually need. Many of our customers come to us after another company frightened them with an alarming survey report. Dean gives a straight, honest second opinion, even when that means telling someone they do not need expensive treatment at all.

Trusted by Hundreds of Local Homeowners

Over 270 five-star reviews across our online platforms, including 49 five-star Google reviews and a 9.63 Checkatrade rating from more than 200 verified reviews.

We would always encourage you to read them and to check us on Google and Checkatrade yourself.

Award winning work

We are proud to have been recognised by our own industry and our local business community over the years:

  • PCA Website of the Year – 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 (five-time winner)
  • PCA Outstanding Customer Service – Winner 2018, and Highly Commended 2019
  • Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) – Finalist, SME Business of the Year (2013)
  • Ashford Business Awards – Small Business Finalist (2017)

We stopped entering awards more recently due to the time it takes to prepare the entry and submit! We prefer to focus on our clients!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if a damp company is genuinely accredited?

Always verify, never just trust a logo. You can search the Property Care Association's online register to confirm whether a company really is a member and search Companies House to check they are a registered business with a real address. A genuine, accountable company will be glad you checked.

I regularly see new websites popping up looking stunning – but there is nothing behind them. No registered address, no real reviews, no "About Us" page showing the people behind the site no regulated acceditations.  Be wary.
